  • Digital Healthcare Services For Remote Workers

Digital Healthcare Services For Remote Workers

Among some of the drastic changes we went through over the past few years, remote work has become one of the few to stay. Various research and studies across industries have found remote work to be a preference among employees. Work-from-home patterns remain a staple in different sectors around the world, and job postings offering remote work rose fivefold between 2019 and early 2023. Recently, the UK outpaced countries such as the US, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand for remote work jobs.

The steady growth of work-from-home worldwide has made way for digital nomads everywhere to work remotely while constantly moving. At the same time, however, remote workers also need to keep safety tips in mind. Simple work-life balance adjustments such as showering, dressing up, and avoiding eating lunch at your desk can go a long way in optimizing your work environment for better productivity and well-being.

Thankfully, with most of our daily activities occurring online or digitally, health and wellness solutions have become more accessible, allowing for better health and work-life balance. In this post, we’ll look at a few digital health and wellness services available online for remote workers:

    Telemedicine

One of the key benefits of our increasingly online and digital lifestyles is the increased accessibility to healthcare through telehealth and online consultations. An online consultation lets you contact a GP or other health professional over the Internet, saving you from waiting for physical appointments. This can be done via smartphone, tablet, or computer. If your GP surgery offers telehealth services in the UK, you can access them through the NHS app or website.

Using telehealth, you can talk to a healthcare provider live and in real-time, send and receive messages, or use remote monitoring for cases where they may need to stay informed on your vital signs and symptoms. While in-person visits may still be necessary in some instances, telehealth lets you access healthcare without leaving your home, cutting down on travel time and costs so that you can still work uninterrupted.

    Free home trials

Sometimes, there are products you need to purchase to maintain your health. These vary from prescription medications to wheelchairs, supplements, and even eyewear — essential for people working with screens all day. Thankfully, healthcare products like eyewear often come with a free trial before you purchase. With a free home trial, you can try on glasses at home for up to seven days before finalizing your purchase. Some retailers may also offer multiple frames for your free home trial, so you can pick and choose which one suits you best.

Other health products that offer free trials are meal kit subscriptions, which help people eliminate the hassle of shopping for groceries, plan meals, and prepare ingredients. This is especially important for remote workers who may have difficulty scheduling downtime to plan healthy meals. Many meal kit vendors also specialize in healthy meals, so remote workers can stay healthy while working from home.

    Home delivered Vitamins

A growing number of vitamin and supplement companies are now offering home delivery subscription services. This provides a lot of benefits over traditional in-store purchases as we’ll see below.

The main appeal is convenience. Having vitamins individually packed and shipped to your door on a regular basis helps busy consumers maintain their supplement routines. There’s no more worrying about running out or making frequent trips to the pharmacy or grocery store. Moreover, they will always be available, so you don’t have to look around for them in different places.

Another upside is customization. Many vitamin delivery services allow customers to fully personalize their vitamin packs. You can handpick the exact supplements and dosages that match your health goals, lifestyle, age, gender, and activity level. Adjustments can be made easily if there is a need for change. Some companies will even help you understand what vitamins you miss and create a bespoke offering for you.

Cuure is one of the companies offering a personalised vitamin programme.

Reputable home delivery brands also emphasize quality, using pharmaceutical-grade ingredients you can trust. This helps ensure potency, purity, and absorption. The subscription plans offer savings over one-time purchases, and some companies also provide extras like health advice from experts, video calls with doctors, and much more.

Of course, potential downsides exist too, like upfront costs, forgetful skipping of shipments, and questions about nutrient bioavailability. However, for many, the convenience and customization of home vitamin delivery make sticking to a regimen effortless. Some of this services deliver worldwise so you could get them wherever you are in the world, at any time.

As always, consult a doctor, especially if managing specific conditions.

Here are some companies that are in the business and can provide you with this service:

    Home Blood tests

At-home blood test kits are a new thing on the market and allow people to collect a blood sample in the comfort of their own home and mail it to a lab for analysis. These kits have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their convenience and ability to provide insights into health markers without requiring a clinic visit.

One of the main advantages of at-home blood test kits is convenience; the sample can be collected at home rather than traveling to a lab or clinic; hence, it provides flexibility. No appointments, no waiting times, etc.

Also, they can be cheaper than standard lab tests, depending on insurance coverage, and allow people to monitor their health without expensive doctor visits.

There tests can check biomarkers like cholesterol, blood cell counts, vitamins, hormones, and more which empowers proactive health management and can keep you much more healthy in the long run.

You can stay private in these states. Well, up to one point. Results are delivered directly to you, and some people prefer privacy over discussing results with a doctor first, so it’s up to you if you want to involve the doctor or not after seeing them.

However, at-home tests do have limitations in terms of what biomarkers can be tested. It’s important to research the test’s accuracy and discuss the results with a doctor. But overall, the simplicity and insights make at-home blood test kits an attractive option for many health-conscious consumers.

Health and wellness webinars and communities

Finally, depending on your line of work, some employers provide free health and wellness webinars you can attend online and digitally. These webinars serve as valuable education to learn essential health concepts such as stress management, nutrition, fitness, mental health, and more. Webinars are also interactive, usually featuring live Q&A sessions, polls, chats, and games, ensuring you are engaged and still feel connected.

Health and wellness webinars are also a convenient alternative to in-person wellness sessions. Some of these can be scheduled at convenient times and accessed from anywhere as long as you’re connected to the Internet, while predetermined, scheduled sessions can be an excellent means to stay in touch with other people in your network or digital workplace.

Many healthcare services and solutions are readily available to us online. And while too much digital screen time can be bad for us — making us sedentary or causing digital overwhelm — the Internet can also be helpful and keep us healthy, as long as we know where to look.

  • From Anywhere to Everywhere: The Art of Crafting a Location-Independent Business

From Anywhere to Everywhere: The Art of Crafting a Location-Independent Business

During an era where digital footprints often outweigh physical ones, the traditional confines of an office are being redefined. The world is not just a global village but has transformed into a vast, interconnected workspace. As borders blur in the business realm, the concept of a location-independent business emerges, not just as a trend but as a sustainable model for modern entrepreneurs.

Jump in as we unpack the intricacies of building a business that thrives beyond geographical boundaries.

    What is a location-independent business?

Any business that doesn’t have a set physical location can be considered location-independent. Entrepreneurs and their teams are not restricted to a physical location but rather are able to work remotely. This paradigm presents a plethora of opportunities in addition to unmatched flexibility.

Whether it’s tapping into global markets, hiring talent from different corners of the globe, or simply enjoying the freedom of travel, a location-independent business breaks the chains of geographical constraints.

Key Features of a Location-Independent Business

Flexibility: The primary advantage is the ability to work from anywhere, anytime.Digital Presence:  Most, if not all, business operations are conducted online.Global Reach: The potential to serve clients or customers from around the world.Adaptability:The capacity to adjust to different time zones, cultures, and market demands.

How has modern technology enabled the rise of location-independent businesses?

Thanks to modern technological advances, location-independent businesses have grown increasingly prevalent rather than the result of a passing fad.

Let’s examine closer at how technological advances have played a role in this revolution.

High-Speed Internet: Due to the broad acceptance of high-speed internet, maintaining connectivity couldn’t be simpler. Whether you’re downloading project data from a mountain chalet or video chatting with a customer on a distant island, stable internet assures smooth operations. Cloud-Based Tools: Apps like Slack, Trello, and Google Drive have revolutionized how we conduct business. These solutions enable teams to work together in real-time, share files, and maintain organization regardless of where they are.High-Speed Internet: Due to the broad acceptance of high-speed internet, maintaining connectivity couldn’t be simpler. How has modern technology enabled the rise of location-independent businesses?

It’s thrilling to start the process of creating a location-independent company. Let’s go deeper into the procedures and methods to bring this vision to life.

Choose a business model that inherently supports remote operations

The foundation of a successful location-independent venture lies in selecting a business model tailored for remote operations. For instance, digital consulting is a brilliant choice. By offering expertise in specialized areas such as marketing or business strategy, you can seamlessly connect with clients worldwide through video calls and online platforms. Another lucrative option is e-commerce. The digital marketplace is vast, allowing entrepreneurs to sell anything from handcrafted items to digital products or even venture into drop shipping.

Invest in reliable cloud-based tools for collaboration, project management, and communication

Investing in reliable cloud-based platforms is crucial. Collaboration tools like Google Workspace or Microsoft Office 365 are invaluable for real-time document creation and editing. For task organization and team coordination, project management tools such as Asana or Trello are highly recommended. And to ensure seamless communication, apps like Slack and Zoom are indispensable.

Establish a consistent routine and dedicated workspace, even when traveling or in different time zones.

While the allure of a location-independent business is flexibility, maintaining a consistent routine is the key to productivity. Equipping oneself with the right work and travel gear can make a significant difference. It’s essential to establish specific work hours, ensuring availability for clients and team interactions.

Additionally, having a dedicated workspace, be it a serene home corner or a bustling co-working space equipped with essential gear, can significantly enhance focus and efficiency.

Prioritize cybersecurity with VPNs, encrypted communications, and secure password management.

Utilizing VPNs is a smart move, especially when accessing public Wi-Fi, as it encrypts your internet connection. For those new to the digital workspace, seeking remote work safety tips can be invaluable.

Platforms offering encrypted communications, like Signal or ProtonMail, are essential for confidential conversations. And to keep all your passwords secure and easily accessible, tools like LastPass are a must-have.”

Cultivate a company culture that values flexibility, trust, and results over hours worked.

A successful location-independent business thrives on a culture that values outcomes over hours logged. Emphasizing flexibility allows team members to work during their most productive hours. Trusting your team and avoiding micromanagement fosters a positive work environment. And by being results-oriented, the focus remains on deliverables and quality, not just time spent.

Utilize virtual mailboxes to maintain a professional business address without a physical office.

Professionalism doesn’t necessitate a physical office. With virtual mailbox services like Anytime Mailbox or Virtual Post Mail, you can have a physical address to receive mail, which is then digitized and sent to you. This ensures you never miss important documents while maintaining a professional image.

Leverage geo-arbitrage by operating in low-cost regions while serving high-paying markets

One of the unsung benefits of a location-independent business is the ability to leverage geo-arbitrage. By operating in regions with a lower cost of living and catering to high-paying markets, you can optimize profits and enjoy a luxurious lifestyle.

    Final words

The digital age has ushered in a revolution, redefining the very fabric of business operations. As the boundaries of the traditional office dissolve, a new paradigm of location-independent businesses emerges, offering a blend of freedom, flexibility, and financial growth.

By embracing the strategies and tools outlined, you’re not just building a business; you’re crafting a lifestyle that harmoniously melds work and wanderlust. The world is vast, and for the modern entrepreneur, it’s also your playground. So, why tether yourself to one spot when the globe beckons?

  • From Nomadic Roots to Location Independence: The Progression of the Nomad Lifestyle

From Nomadic Roots to Location Independence: The Progression of the Nomad Lifestyle

    What is the “Nomad Lifestyle”

The modern workforce and technology have enabled a growing trend toward remote work and location independence. As a result, a new category of workers has emerged, known as digital nomads. These are people who leverage technology to work remotely and live a location-independent lifestyle.

In this article, we will explore what exactly a digital nomad is. We’ll look at how advances in technology and internet connectivity have facilitated this remote work style. We’ll also learn about the typical characteristics and habits of digital nomads. Finally, we’ll consider the pros and cons of the digital nomad lifestyle.

The digital nomad lifestyle is dramatically different from a traditional office job. By understanding what a digital nomad is and what the lifestyle entails, you can better evaluate if it could be right for you. The world of work is changing rapidly, and digital nomads represent an emerging workforce trend.

So, what exactly is this new nomadic lifestyle that so many people are deciding to embark on, and could it be right for you?

Defining the Nomad Lifestyle and a bit of history about it

Human nomadism is a way of life that involves frequent travel and the absence of permanent settlements. For thousands of years, it has been an important element of human history, influencing civilizations and society. Here’s a quick rundown of human nomadism’s history. Digital nomadism is not a new movement, but just the modern or contemporary – if you want to call it that, version of people living everywhere.

Human nomadism has been an intriguing aspect of human history that extends back to the earliest times when hunter-gatherers wandered in quest of sustenance. They lived in makeshift shelters, constantly adjusting to their surroundings. With the domestication of animals such as sheep, goats, and cattle, the Neolithic Era signified a tremendous transition. As humans began to wander periodically in search of new grazing grounds for their herds, this development laid the groundwork for pastoral nomadism.

Even to the current day, there are still “classic” nomad tribes that still exist, like the Tuareg in the Sarah desert

Nomadic communities on the Eurasian steppes gained superior metalworking capabilities throughout the Bronze Age, allowing them to trade with sedentary civilizations. These nomads were critical in the movement of products and ideas between East and West. Some nomadic cultures, such as the Huns, Mongols, and Turkic peoples, were famous for their military victories, changing history via huge migrations and impacts.

The Silk Road, a complex network of trade routes, united nomadic and sedentary populations throughout Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, facilitating cultural exchange and economic relations. Traditional nomadism began to decrease in many places as empires were established and transportation improved. Nonetheless, certain nomadic civilizations, such as the Bedouins of the Arabian Desert, have survived.

In the modern era, nomadic traditions have experienced revivals in various forms. Digital nomads, van dwellers, and wanderers adopt nomadic lifestyles by choice, often relying on technology to support their mobility. However, modern nomadism faces challenges related to environmental sustainability, land rights, and the preservation of traditional cultures. Balancing traditional practices with contemporary pressures remains a complex issue in the ongoing story of human nomadism.

Types of Nomad Life and Living

Digital nomads are not only people who travel by plane and live in nice flats or expensive hotels. The world of remote workers is wider. There are people exploring the world in vans, RVs, couchsurfing, and even sailing.

For example, van lifers outfit modest vans as their full-time homes, embracing minimalism and mobility. RVers tow all the comforts of home in recreational vehicles, forming communities with fellow travelers. Budget-conscious nomads couch surf, staying with locals for free accommodation.

Other adventurous souls set sail on boats, working remotely at sea when WiFi is available in ports. The digital nomad lifestyle opens up diverse, affordable ways of living on the move. As long as they have a laptop and internet connection, remote workers can choose alternative modes of travel like vans, RVs, couch surfing, or sailing boats to journey off the beaten path. And now, there are new ways to get your internet in the wilderness, like the Starlink, where you just need a dish pointed at a satellite which you can install literally anywhere.

Let’s look at a few “types” of nomads and see how they organise their lives and work on the go.

Furthermore, nomads are often more conscious of their consuming trends. Being on the go motivates people to buy locally and sustainably sourced items, therefore supporting companies that prioritise eco-friendly practices. This conscious attitude extends to their daily decisions, impacting the sustainability of the sites they frequent.

Finally, the nomadic lifestyle creates a greater respect for the natural world. Many nomads participate in outdoor activities and explore natural surroundings, which could increase their awareness of environmental challenges. This increased understanding frequently drives individuals to take action to protect the environment, reaffirming their commitment to sustainability.

PLUS top advice on everything related to location independence lifestyle:

    Van life and RV Enthusiasts

RV and Van Lifers embrace a nomadic lifestyle centered around living in recreational vehicles (RVs) or converted vans. This lifestyle offers them the freedom to travel extensively, explore diverse landscapes, and embrace a minimalist, mobile existence. The choice of vehicle varies, including motorhomes, camper vans, travel trailers, and converted cargo vans, depending on budget, space requirements, and travel preferences.

The mobility provided by RVs and vans is a significant attraction. Nomads can easily change locations, whether it’s for a weekend getaway, a cross-country road trip, or an extended journey. This freedom to roam and explore at will is a defining feature of the lifestyle.

Many RVs and vans are equipped with essential amenities like sleeping quarters, kitchenettes, and bathrooms, allowing nomads to enjoy a level of comfort while on the road. However, the limited space encourages minimalism, forcing travelers to carefully curate their belongings, prioritize essentials, and find creative storage solutions.

Adventure and exploration are core elements of RV and van life. Nomads can visit national parks, camp in remote wilderness areas, and discover hidden gems across the country or even internationally. This lifestyle encourages a profound connection with the great outdoors and the thrill of the open road.

A sense of community often emerges among RV and van lifers on the road. They connect with fellow travelers at campgrounds, RV parks, and through online forums, sharing valuable tips, experiences, and a sense of camaraderie that adds depth to their journeys.

Living in an RV or van can be cost-effective, eliminating the need for traditional mortgages or rent, and significantly reducing expenses like utility bills. Many nomads find ways to work remotely or pick up temporary jobs along their journey to support their lifestyle and fund their adventures.

Sustainability is another consideration, with some nomads using solar panels for electricity, practicing responsible waste disposal, and seeking out eco-conscious campgrounds to reduce their environmental impact.

Challenges are inherent in this lifestyle, including adapting to changing weather conditions, navigating unfamiliar roads, and addressing maintenance issues with their vehicles. Yet, the rewards of a life filled with exploration, self-sufficiency, and adventure often outweigh the challenges.

RV and van lifers may follow seasonal travel patterns, migrating to warmer climates in the winter and cooler regions in the summer, enjoying comfortable weather year-round. Remote work, freelance opportunities, and entrepreneurship enable them to find a better work-life balance.

Families traveling in RVs and vans often choose homeschooling, incorporating real-world experiences and outdoor learning into their children’s education. Some plan detailed itineraries, while others prefer to go wherever the road takes them, embracing the spontaneity of the journey.

    Sailors and Boaters

“Sailors and Boaters” are a different type of nomads who have adopted a lifestyle centred on living on various forms of boats. This way of life allows people to explore coastal regions, islands, and even open oceans while living aboard their boat or yacht as their primary home. Depending on personal tastes and the adventures sought, watercraft can range from sailboats and motor yachts to houseboats and smaller vessels such as canoes or kayaks.

The ability to explore the seaside is one of the lifestyle’s unique aspects. These nomads can moor in secret coves, explore distant beaches, and visit locations that are frequently unreachable by land. The water becomes their home as well as their gateway to new adventures.

These nomads have a strong feeling of community and solidarity. They often establish close-knit communities in marinas, yacht clubs, or while travelling in flotillas. During their journeys, these groups provide social support, shared knowledge, and companionship, fostering a sense of belonging.

Living on the water has unique obstacles, such as coping with bad weather conditions, continual maintenance concerns, and the need for adaptation. Sailors and boaters must be prepared for shifting conditions and acquire the resilience to manage both calm and difficult waters.

Sailing and boating are synonymous with freedom and adventure. They have the freedom to choose their own routes, choose their own locations, and immerse themselves in a continuously changing background of sea and sky.

We’ve covered some digital nomads at sea and their super interesting lives in some of our articles. You can read more about the PROs and CONs of living on a sailboat in this interview with boat nomads Ryan and Sophie or how Chris and Kelly got into a boat renovation project and started sailing the world

    Tiny homes on wheels

Tiny house dwellers are people who have decided to live a minimalist and compact lifestyle by living in small, typically custom-built residences known as “tiny houses.” These dwellings are often significantly smaller than regular residences, ranging in size from 100 to 400 square feet. This type of living emphasizes a minimalist lifestyle in which inhabitants assess their things carefully, resulting in a more purposeful and clutter-free existence.

Many tiny dwellings are custom-built to make the most of available space. To make the most of the available space, creative storage solutions like built-in furniture, fold-down beds, and multi-purpose furnishings are frequently integrated. Furthermore, tiny dwellings are frequently constructed with sustainability in mind.

They are energy-efficient and require fewer resources to build and maintain, making them an environmentally friendly housing choice.

Affordability is a major motivator for opting for tiny home living. Tiny houses are often far less expensive to build or buy than regular residences, and they frequently have fewer ongoing costs, such as electricity bills and property taxes. This affordability factor can provide people with a road to financial independence by allowing them to reduce or eliminate home debt.

The mobility of small dwellings is one of their distinguishing features. Some tiny houses are designed on wheels, allowing owners to effortlessly transport their homes from one site to another. This mobility allows you to explore new regions or live in other communities, which adds an exciting dimension to tiny home life.

In a number of parts of the world, communities of small home inhabitants have arisen, where like-minded people live in proximity to one another. These communities foster a feeling of collaboration and shared resources, giving people a distinct sense of belonging.

Many small house dwellers also embrace a DIY (do-it-yourself) culture, preferring to build and customize their dwellings themselves. This hands-on engagement personalizes their living area and strengthens their bond with their small homes.

Those interested in this lifestyle must navigate local laws and regulations carefully.

However, it’s crucial to note that tiny house living can present legal and zoning challenges in many areas due to varying regulations and building codes. Those interested in this lifestyle must navigate local laws and regulations carefully.

Furthermore, tiny house living can foster a strong sense of community engagement. Residents often participate in local initiatives, contribute to neighborhood projects, and promote sustainability in their communities.

    Digital Minimalists

Simplifying the digital is a new challenge GEN-Zs and Millenials are trying to solve. They are absolutely bombarded by social media channels and ads, with their attention span getting smaller and smaller. With packed calendars, overflowing inboxes, and the constant pull of the news (and Netflix), it can feel like one has no time left for himself or herself.

But what if there was a way to use your technology without feeling used by it? Have you heard of  Digital minimalism? This could be one way to improve your life.

The more we accept a life full of attention-sucking apps, devices, and tools, the less time and energy we have for the kind of deep thinking that leads to big ideas, real creativity, and satisfaction.

So, digital minimalism presents a different take on technology–one where you focus your time on “a small number of carefully selected and optimized activities that strongly support things you value, and then happily miss out on everything else.” as Cal Newport suggests in one of the best books on the subject called Digital Minimalism.

Spending time alone without your phone helps you think clearly and avoid FOMO. Don’t just click ‘like’ or always be available online – this provides little value. Reclaim leisure time for analog hobbies you enjoy rather than endless scrolling. Join the “Attention Resistance” by deleting social media from your phone or treating it like a task done when needed, not constantly. Imagine you had to pay money for every online click or swipe – this highlights the value of your time and attention. If you placed a monetary cost on your digital behaviors, it would likely change them for the better. The main message is to be more intentional with your use for quality over quantity, and not let it dominate your time and attention. Moderation and focus on real-world activities provide more fulfillment.

Benefits of the Nomad Lifestyle – Reasons to get into it

Being a nomad offers a lifestyle filled with enticing benefits. It grants the precious gifts of freedom and flexibility, allowing individuals to work from virtually anywhere, embracing new horizons and diverse cultures. This unique path promotes a harmonious work-life balance, enabling the pursuit of personal passions alongside professional endeavors while potentially yielding cost savings in lower-cost destinations.

Moreover, the nomadic journey fosters valuable connections through networking opportunities with people from various backgrounds. It serves as a catalyst for personal growth, nurturing adaptability, self-reliance, and problem-solving skills. The elimination of daily commutes reduces stress and environmental impact, contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle.

Beyond practical advantages, the nomadic lifestyle offers a wellspring of creative inspiration, sparked by ever-changing surroundings. It embarks adventurers on a journey of constant exploration and discovery, creating a life brimming with excitement and novel experiences.

    Sustainability and Ethical Considerations

Digital nomads and sustainable living are linked by the deliberate choices that nomadic people make in their lifestyles. To begin with, nomads contribute greatly to sustainability by decreasing or even eliminating daily commute. Nomads work remotely, generally from their lodgings, as opposed to standard office workers, who frequently face long and carbon-intensive commutes. This decrease in transit not only reduces emissions but also relieves urban congestion.

Furthermore, when travelling, nomads frequently seek for eco-friendly hotels. They are more likely to select accommodations that prioritise sustainability through practises like as energy efficiency, waste minimization, and the use of renewable energy sources. This deliberate choice of accommodations helps to reduce their environmental effect throughout their stay.

Challenges of the Nomad Lifestyle – There are “downsides” too

Even though this life sounds spectacular for some, it does bring a series of challenges. that one has to consider before getting in. (but hey, it’s not a big deal if you try and doesn’t work). We’ll just point some of the downsides below so you get a good idea of what it means from a critical standpoint.

First of all, finding reliable wifi and fast internet speeds can become a daily quest as you wander to new destinations, cafes, and makeshift workspaces.Even worse, if you are using

Building meaningful connections and a sense of community is an ongoing effort as you trade roots for the open road. The comforts of home are replaced by a string of temporary spaces.

Navigating visas, permits, and evolving regulations requires research, planning, and flexibility as you cross borders and immerse in new cultures and laws. The legal landscape is perpetually shifting.

Seeking affordable short-term housing that meets your needs is a constant chore without the stability of long-term rental. You sacrifice convenience for freedom and mobility.

Maintaining focus and uninterrupted workflows takes discipline without the structure of routine. The rhythm of work and life is frequently disrupted.

Securing insurance and healthcare coverage on the go can be a challenge without a home base. You trade localized care for mobility and adventure.

Battle-tested resilience wards off burnout from the exhilaration and fatigue of nonstop motion. Rest and recovery keep you energized and engaged.

While intoxicating at first, rootlessness can breed loneliness. You trade physical home for global homelessness, stable community for digital nomadism.

The digital nomad life offers reward and self-discovery, but demands resilience, planning, and constant recalibration. You abandon roots to cultivate new ground.

Nicaragua For Digital Nomads – Lifestyle, Safety and Finest Beaches

Nicaragua’s nature and beaches offer a good option (not the BEST though!) for remote workers seeking a creative location

If you’re seeking to work in a region with warm weather, a lush landscape, an economical cost of living, and a rich culture, Central America is a must-see. Furthermore, Central American countries share the same time zone as Canada and the United States, which is advantageous for individuals with a North American home base.

Did you ever consider Nicaragua as one of your options? It’s a land with a vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes, boasts some of the world’s most pristine and picturesque beaches. From secluded shores to lively beach towns, this Central American gem offers a range of coastal experiences bound to captivate travelers seeking sun, surf, and serenity.

Join us on a virtual journey in this article where we unveil why Nicaragua is a great place for digital nomads (including safety!) and we also go through Nicaragua’s most exquisite beaches to relax in your down time. (P.S. They are stunning.) So, grab your sun hat, pack the perfect suitcase, and let’s embark on this tropical adventure!

Nicaragua for Remote Work – Is it a good destination?

First of all, travelers are allowed three months in this country (other nations only allow 30 days). So from this perspective, Nicaragua has become a thriving destination for creatives, including digital nomads with an increasing number of people visiting the country’s major towns, such as Leon and Granada.

On the negative side, the infrastructure is lacking, and power outages and internet outages are quite common. More on this below.

    Internet and connectivity

Travelers report that Granada is OK but as soon as you reach the Pacific coast, there are disruptions at least once per week, usually for at least a few hours.

There is 4G and LTE coverage around the big towns of Nicaragua. A full list of locations covered by Tigo nicaragua can be found here.

Claro cellphone service provider has a booth at customs at the airport. You might want to get it from there as soon as you arrive. There are many plans, depending on what you want. They have unlimited social media apps and WhatsApp. More at www.claro.com.ni

If you want some good, stable internet, the hostel Tropical in San Juan Del Sur has great internet, 275 mbps download speeds, and a dedicated coworking space.

Another good spot to stay and go online immediately is Selina which offers outdoor co-working spaces that give the feeling of being in nature. They have locations in Granada and Maderas by the beach. Selina is ideal for the digital nomad lifestyle.

San Juan del Sur has a new coworking space now called “The Space”.

    Safety

Visiting Nicaragua is doable, but unless you take the necessary precautions, there is a good chance that something will go wrong.

Nicaragua, like many other Central American countries, has a high crime rate. In addition, the country faces a few additional issues, including political upheaval.(they had riots and civil unrest in the past few years.)

While they should have no bearing on you as a visitor, you don’t want to get tangled up in the wrong crowd.

The main concern for visitors to Nicaragua is undoubtedly crime. In 2023, it was just #123 on the Global Peace Index’s list of safest countries, so definitely something to keep in mind.

The good news is Nicaragua has one of the lowest homicide rates in Latin America and the Caribbean, much lower than certain major tourist destinations like Jamaica and Costa Rica.

Its homicide rate increased slightly in 2021, to 11 occurrences per 100,000 inhabitants, and it has a higher homicide rate than the world average. And also, Nicaragua is one of the safer countries in Central America for a vacation and coastal towns tend to have less violent crime.

The capital, Managua, has many neighborhoods that are pretty dangerous like Avenida Bolivar, Altamira, Rene Schick, Jorge Dimitrov, Zona Rosa.

    Common crimes include:

PickpocketingBag snatchingRobberyArmed robberyMuggingExpress kidnappingAssaultGang violenceSexual assault

    Things to do

Remote working is about work-life balance, and we’re sure that’s why you chose this lifestyle so you can enjoy activities and life wherever you are.

Nicaragua is the perfect place to do hiking, diving, surfing, yoga, and even bird watching. There is a lot to do, and choosing a location that is central to these activities can substantially enhance your visit. And you want to take advantage of the superb landscapes and beaches while you’re there.

The way to move around is by bus or taxi, and it costs a fraction of the cost of transport in first world countries. You can also opt for a moped or scooter, which you can easily rent for months at a time. Some of the MUST DOs are Laguna de Apoyo, Ometepe, Masaya Volcano, Granada, Leon, Corn Island, and San Juan del Sur.  A few words on each are below and we’ll also mention some of the best beaches Nicaragua has to offer.

  • Essential Strategies for Success as a Work-from-Home Contractor – Navigating the Virtual Office

Strategies as a Work from Home Contractor

The rise of working from home is not just a mere trend but a paradigm shift that has revolutionized how individuals engage with their professions. It has brought forth new opportunities that reach many industries, including contracting.

From working in a more comfortable environment to spending more time with their families, contractors now have the freedom to forge their careers from the comfort of their homes.

However, this dynamic landscape isn’t without its share of challenges. Despite being a liberating setup, working from home demands a distinctive set of skills and strategies to ensure success. Navigating this digital terrain requires a keen understanding of how to leverage the benefits while mitigating the challenges.

Amidst the advantages and challenges of working from home, ensuring the success of your profession while navigating this work setup lies in your hands. As a work-from-home contractor, you are not merely adapting to a changing work landscape — you are actively shaping it.To help you in this endeavor, this article will explore the essential aspects to consider when navigating this transformative work landscape. Within these discussions are strategies that will help you thrive within the boundless possibilities of working from home.

    Create a Virtual Workspace

As a work-from-home contractor, one of the crucial factors that can significantly influence your success is the setup of your virtual workspace. This dedicated area not only serves as your operational hub but also shapes your mindset and work ethic.

What’s more, having this work-only zone enables you to eliminate distractions and establish a clear boundary between your professional and personal lives. Physically demarcating your workspace at home also creates a psychological shift that helps maintain focus and productivity.

An ergonomic setup is another fundamental aspect of a conducive workspace at home. Invest in furniture that prevents physical strain, such as a standing desk and a comfortable work chair.

These pieces of equipment are designed to help you stay focused and more productive, as they elevate the discomfort that comes with working in front of a computer or hunched over paperwork all day.

Equipping yourself with the right tools not only ensures your professional efficacy but also reflects your commitment to delivering exceptional results to your clients or collaborators. Prioritize investing in quality equipment that aligns with your work requirements.

A reliable computer, a high-speed internet connection, and relevant software are your gateway to seamless communication and efficient project management.

    Time Management and Productivity

On top of pursuing both your professional and personal interests, you must master the art of time management. The dynamic landscape of remote work demands your ability to efficiently allocate your time to determine your success in the contracting field.

To effectively manage your time, consider establishing a daily routine that reflects the structure of a traditional workday. Set a start and end time for your work hours that allow you to navigate your professional realm with purpose and clarity.

This routine helps condition your mind to transition into work mode and transition back to personal time once your workday concludes.

Setting your goals and priorities will also help you maximize your time and productivity. Prioritize these tasks based on urgency and importance to ensure that your efforts are always aligned with your overarching goals.

Another way to optimize your productivity while working from home is to embrace time-blocking techniques. A popular method you can try is the Pomodoro Technique, which is characterized by focused work intervals followed by short breaks.

Additionally, consider using time-tracking apps to monitor your tasks and identify potential time sinks. These techniques foster discipline, enhance concentration, reveal areas for improvement in your work process, and prevent burnout.

    Communication in the Virtual Space

Communication is the lifeline that connects you to clients, collaborators, and the broader professional ecosystem as you work from home. Your ability to communicate effectively can transcend physical distance and establish a bridge of understanding.

Using digital communication tools helps convey your ideas, questions, and updates transparently. For instance, video conferencing platforms bring a human touch to interactions to foster rapport and understanding

Meanwhile, instant messaging tools facilitate quick exchanges, and emails serve as official records of conversations.  Ensure that you write these messages with clarity and are straight to the point to minimize misunderstandings and showcase your professionalism.

Thriving in the virtual world also requires you to keep yourself and the people you work with updated on the latest developments in your projects.

Scheduled check-ins with clients or project managers ensure the alignment of your ideas every step of the way, allowing you to clarify expectations, provide updates, and address concerns. These interactions also foster a sense of collaboration and trust, which are vital for successful remote work relationships.

    Maintain Work-Life Balance

Striking a harmonious balance between your professional and personal lives is not just a luxury — it’s a necessity for your success and well-being.

Setting boundaries is your priority when striving for a healthy work-life balance. Aside from creating a dedicated workspace and setting a start and end time for your work, you should also communicate your boundaries to clients, collaborators, and even family members to ensure mutual respect for your space and time.

You should also take regular breaks between tasks so you can recharge, stretch, and recalibrate your focus. The simple act of stepping away from your screen can rejuvenate your creativity and enhance productivity

After working, you should be ready to transition from work mode to personal time. You can do so by creating end-of-day rituals. These rituals can be as simple as shutting down your workspace, taking a walk, or engaging in a leisure activity. Such practices signal closure, allowing you to unwind and recharge for the next day.

    Final words

The journey of a work-from-home contractor toward success is both exciting and demanding. Still, embracing the remote contracting landscape is an invitation to growth and accomplishment.

By creating a designated workspace, effectively managing your time, maintaining communication, and striving for work-life balance, you can nurture your career with the potential to flourish beyond limits.

So, as you navigate your way through virtual corridors, remember that your potential knows no bounds. Your success is not just a destination but it’s also an evolving journey that you’re uniquely positioned to shape.

  • Everything About Web3: Developer Jobs, Opportunities And Resources

Everything About Web3: Developer Jobs, Opportunities And Resources

Learn About The Future of Web And Upcoming Tech Jobs

Web3, commonly known as the decentralized web, is founded upon blockchain and decentralized technologies with the objective of affording users increased control, ownership, and privacy over their digital interactions. With this transformative shift comes a growing demand for skilled Web3 developers who can build and innovate on these decentralized platforms.

This guide explores the world of Web3 developer jobs, the opportunities they present, and the resources available for aspiring developers to dive into this exciting field.

    Understanding Web3 Development

Web3 development involves crafting decentralized applications (dApps) and constructing platforms that harness blockchain and other decentralized technologies to facilitate peer-to-peer engagements, data ownership, and heightened security.

Unlike conventional software development, which hinges on centralized servers and intermediaries, Web3 development harnesses the distributed and tamper-proof attributes of blockchain to facilitate trustless interactions and safeguard data storage.

Many Web3 developers are remote workers, building dApps from all over the world. As it is still a growing field, Web3 developers must be well-versed in various technologies, including:

Blockchain: Understand the fundamentals of different blockchains (Ethereum, Solana, etc.), smart contracts, and consensus mechanismsSmart Contracts: Develop self-executing contracts with the terms of the agreement directly written into code. A popular programming language used by Web3 developers is Solidity, which can write smart contracts on the Ethereum platform.Decentralized Identity (DID): Enable the reliable management of digital identities, giving users greater control over their personal information.IPFS and Distributed Storage: Enable peer-to-peer file sharing and distributed storage.

Aside from these technologies, Web3 development must also prioritize security. Note that transactions recorded on a blockchain are irreversible, meaning once a transaction is confirmed and added to the blockchain, it cannot be altered. As a result, any vulnerabilities or mistakes in smart contracts or applications can have lasting consequences.

Thus, given the unregulated nature of blockchain technology, Web3 companies and developers must take additional security measures, like gaining various security certifications, to gain customer trust and confidence.

    Web3 vs. Traditional Software Development

While both Web3 and traditional software development share common programming principles, there are notable differences. For instance, Web3 development focuses on building decentralized applications that eliminate single points of failure and central control, whereas traditional software often relies on centralized servers and infrastructure.

Something unique to the decentralized web, for example, is a smart contract. This contract is self-executing, meaning it is composed of code that automates contractual processes.

In terms of trust and ownership, Web3 aims to give users more control over their data and digital assets, minimizing the need to trust intermediaries. On the other hand, traditional software may involve more reliance on third parties.

Another difference is the monetization of the software. Web3 applications often embrace novel monetization models, such as tokenomics and decentralized finance. Traditional software typically relies on traditional payment methods or fiat currencies.

The Most Sought-After Web3 Developer Jobs

The emergence of Web3 development has led to a diverse array of sought-after Web3 developer roles, each requiring a unique set of skills and expertise. These jobs are highly coveted positions, and each role has a significant impact on the progress of decentralized technology. Whether you’re an aspiring Web3 developer or a seasoned professional considering a transition, here are some of the most exciting opportunities that await you.

  • 12 Things Digital Nomads Should Never Do

12 Things Digital Nomads Should Never Do

Hello fellow wanderluster and Wi-Fi seeker! As you gallivant around the globe, hopping from one caffeinated co-working space to the next, there’s an unspoken digital nomad code that many of us learn—often the hard way! But fret not, for I’m here to share some “what NOT to do” wisdom. I myself made a lot of mistakes when I started and unfortunately, they cost me a lot of time, frustration, and some money (on lost and stolen things, argh)

I dug deep into my memories and thought really well about the things that went wrong and how I could have avoided them. Here’s a cheeky list of digital nomad no-nos build in my opinion that you should know

    1. Flying by the Seat of Your Pants (All the Time)

A little spontaneity adds spice to life, doesn’t it? But constantly winging it can land you in hot water. Imagine being on a Zoom call and realising your beach hut‘s Wi-Fi has conked off. Plan a bit, mate. It saves tears later!

    2. Neglecting Time Zones

So you’ve promised a client an update by 5 pm. Brilliant! But did you clarify whose 5 pm? Theirs, yours, or the place where your virtual office cat resides? This tiny oversight can cause a righteous kerfuffle.

Make sure that your Google calendar is set to the local time zone whenever you change locations. Here is a good timezone converter you should look at every time you schedule an appointment globally or do business with another continent. Also, you might want to setup some clocks on your iPhone and Macbook Screen

    3. Thinking ‘It Won’t Happen to Me’

Lost luggage, misplaced passports, stolen laptops… While we’d love to think we’re the exceptions, it’s better to be prepared. A dash of caution and a sprinkle of preparation go a long way! I’d say get some airtags on it. You can buy them from Amazon or Apple Store. I also try to stick with just two items. A big backpack or cabbin trolley and a nice city bag. That’s it. Keep it simple, it’s more than enough for a few months of travelling.

    4. Being That Loud Cafe Guy or Gal

Yes, you’re sealing the deal of a lifetime. No, the entire cafe doesn’t need to hear it. Keep it down, will you? Headphones are a gem, and “indoor voices” aren’t just for kids.

    5. Forgetting to Back Up Your Work

One coffee spill, one dropped hard drive, one unpredictable power cut, and boom! All your hard work can vanish. Regularly back up your files, both on the cloud and an external drive. Have Google Drive or icloud running on the background on your computer can be a life saver so why not?!

    6. Assuming Every Place is a Workspace

That ancient temple might offer the perfect Instagram backdrop, but it’s not the place to whip out your laptop and start tapping away. Respect the culture and the sanctity of places, and if you don’t know the local rules, make an effort to find them out. It’s better to be safe and respectful than sorry. Not all coffee shop owners are open to letting you work for hours on your laptop, and you might get some weird looks. Also, not all digital nomad cities are safe (still remember when a thief tried to steal my backpack in Bogota), so you want to work in a quiet and safe space too. Why not try coworking?

    7. Doing It All

You’re not on a travel show, and you don’t need to be everywhere and do everything. Yes, the world’s your oyster, but sometimes it’s alright to leave a few pearls untouched. Enjoy the journey, and don’t burn yourself out.

Hire a virtual assistant for as little as $100 on Fiverr, or find a business partner on LinkedIn and join forces to grow together.

When it comes to payrolls, companies like SD Worx payroll services, graphic design freelancers or local bookkeepers can help you find that balance between working on your business and having a good time exploring the new sights and sounds around you.

Give it a try, if you’re making decent money with your business, why not delegate so you can focus on really important things?

    8. Skimping on Essential Gear

A dodgy laptop, a charger that’s on its last legs, headphones that play only in one ear – that’s not how champions roll! Invest in quality gear. Your work (and your sanity) will thank you. Go for noise-canceling headphones, a powerful and portable laptop (Macbook Air?), battery banks, laptop accessories, and of course a laptop stand.

    9. Ignoring Local Customs and Etiquette

Blending in doesn’t mean sacrificing your individuality, but there’s a balance. Before landing in a new location, read up on local customs, greetings, dress codes, and so on. Not only does it show respect, but it’ll also save you from many awkward faux pas!

I always have to remember that Thailand, Japan and Philippines you need to take your shoes off in the countryside and islands. Also, getting a sarong, having long trousers or a long skirt will come in handy for temples and public institutions – like the Immigration Office.

    10. Being a Wi-Fi Snob

“You call THIS high-speed?” Before you huff and puff, remember: you chose the digital nomad life for the adventure, not the megabytes. Sometimes, you just need to go with the flow (or lack thereof). Tether your phone and get some decent 4G. I found coworking spaces with fibre internet where there was not even a mobile signal. So just do your research beforehand.

Ok, not even that? That’s fine!! Enjoy the offline moments. Go to the beach, write a business plan or a journal, find a museum, or join a meetup in that city or town.

    11. Never Clocking Off

Remember holidays? Those things people take to unwind? Just because you’re always ‘on the move’ doesn’t mean you’re perpetually ‘on the clock’. Set boundaries. Take breaks. Your brain deserves it. Find a nice beach and take an hour or two to yourself as often as you can because the nomadic life is all about finding enjoyment and experiencing new things, after all.

    12. Overlooking Insurance

“It’s just for a short while!” Famous last words before the flu hits, or your tech gear decides to take a leap of faith from the 4th floor. Be it health or gear, ensure you’re covered because disaster is even more likely to strike from time to time when you are always on the road, always in and out of airports, and always in new places, than it is when you are stuck in the same office space day in and day out.

Stay safe and healthy with GENKI Insurance

Genki World Explorer includes excellent health coverage in every country in the world, and it’s available to citizens of all countries.
We offer great benefits such as medical treatment at any doctor or hospital in the world, with no cost limit, and cover for emergency dental treatments, and initial mental issue treatments.
Genki also provides a 24/7 assistance hotline that can help with direct billing to hospitals, and arranging medical transport.

You can sign-up online in less than two minutes, even if you’re already traveling.

    13. Not Budgeting

Budgeting is essential for any lifestyle, but it’s especially important for digital nomads. This is because you’ll be spending money on a variety of things, including travel, accommodation, food, and entertainment. Without a budget, it’s easy to overspend and end up in financial trouble.

There are a few different ways to budget for your digital nomad lifestyle. One way is to use a budgeting app or software. These tools can help you track your income and expenses, and create a budget that works for you. Another way to budget is to simply track your spending manually. This can be done by using a notebook or spreadsheet.

No matter how you choose to budget, the most important thing is to be consistent. This means tracking your spending regularly and making adjustments to your budget as needed. By budgeting consistently, you can stay on top of your finances and avoid overspending.

Some specific things to budget for as a digital nomad:

Travel: This includes the cost of flights, accommodation, transportation, and activities.
Accommodation: This can range from hostels to luxury hotels. It’s important to find accommodations that fit your budget and your needs.
Food: The cost of food can vary depending on where you are in the world. It’s important to budget for food that is both healthy and affordable. Street food or restaurants? Cheap or expensive? It depends on your daily budget.
Entertainment: This includes the cost of going out to eat, visiting museums, and other activities. It’s important to budget for entertainment that you will enjoy and that fits your budget.
Other expenses: This could include things like laundry, internet, and phone bills. It’s important to factor in these expenses when creating your budget. These are usually not expensive but make sure you factor them in.

    14. Taking care of your health

When you’re constantly on the go, it can be easy to neglect your sleep. However, getting enough sleep is essential for your physical and mental health. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night, even if you’re in a different time zone.

Another improtant aspect is eating healthy foods that will give you the energy you need to stay productive and feel your best. Make sure to include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet. In countries in South America and Asia, it’s very easy to find good and fresh fruits.Exercise is another important way to stay healthy as a digital nomad. It helps to improve your mood, reduce stress, and boost your energy levels. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week.

Some tips for taking care of your health as a digital nomad that I found useful in my years of nomading:

Find a healthy routine that works for you. This may involve waking up early to exercise, packing healthy snacks for the day, or finding a yoga studio in your new city.
Be mindful of your diet when traveling. It’s easy to overindulge in unhealthy foods when you’re traveling, but try to stick to your healthy eating habits as much as possible.
Make time for self-care. This could mean taking a bath, reading a book, or getting a massage. Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health.

By following these tips, you can stay healthy and happy as a digital nomad.

    Final thoughts

Being a digital nomad is as much about embracing the world as it is about delivering top-notch work. Every hiccup is a story, every mistake a lesson. Pack light, work smart, laugh at the blunders, and for goodness’ sake, save that document before the Wi-Fi dies! Safe travels and happy working!

New Bali Golden Visa Targets Digital Nomad Talent and Foreign Investment

Bali’s New Golden Visa: A Magnet for Digital Nomads and Innovators

The exciting initiative of the New Bali Golden Visa is making waves with its innovative approach. Like other digital nomad visas around the world, this visa aims to attract talented entrepreneurs from around the world and boost foreign investments. The focus of this visionary visa is on individuals who have chosen Bali, the iconic Indonesian city, as their hub of creativity. Although the initial launch, initially planned for June 2023, has faced delays due to fine-tuning policies, authorities now expect to introduce it in the third quarter. While other areas of Indonesia are also embracing the concept of digital nomad villages, the New Bali Golden Visa stands out as the first to cater to the needs of wealthy remote workers.

Creating an Impactful Bali Golden Visa Amidst Economic and Equity Considerations

Indonesian immigration officials are carefully designing the “Golden Visa” to find the right balance between maintaining its integrity and promoting economic growth. This visa is strategically aimed at pioneers in fields like digital technology, research, health, and creative industries. Sandiaga Uno, the Minister for Tourism and Creative Economies, shares Indonesia’s selective approach to this initiative.

Embracing the Benefits of the “Golden Visa”

Introducing fresh possibilities, this revolutionary visa offers durations of 5 and 10 years, setting it apart from the existing range of Indonesian visas. This prestigious visa comes with a bundle of advantages, including multiple entries into Indonesia, property ownership rights, and extended validity periods. Interestingly, holding the “Golden Visa” could even speed up the process of applying for citizenship for eligible beneficiaries.

Assessing the Value: Investing in Indonesia’s Esteemed “Bali Golden Visa”

Prospective candidates should be ready to make significant investments, reflecting the importance of this program. Similar to another long-term visa option in Indonesia, potential applicants might need to show a financial capability of approximately $130,000 USD. These costs are carefully calculated to attract a specific group of high-caliber candidates, in line with the global trend of attracting sought-after temporary residents.

Navigating International Immigration Trends with the Bali Golden Visa

Indonesia is entering the global stage by introducing specialized visas and customized fee structures that cater to various migration needs. These multifaceted goals range from increasing foreign spending to attracting highly skilled professionals. In contrast, regular tourist visas usually come with shorter durations and lower entry requirements. For example, Indonesia’s standard tourist visa only allows a stay of 30 days. In the past this has become a deterent for valuable foreign investment but new digital nomad villages are emerging due to this.

Indonesia’s First Digital Nomad Village Announced: Here’s Everything You Need To Know

    Lembeh Island, Bitung City

When you conjure images of Indonesia, Bali naturally takes center stage—a paradise renowned for its exquisite beauty, cherished by both avid tourists and those seeking the allure of a digital nomad village, spanning well over a decade. However, even within this enchanting destination, subtle signs of strain have begun to unfurl. Issues such as overcrowding, pollution, and security concerns have prompted discerning influencers to reevaluate the region’s once-unquestioned appeal.

Nevertheless, Indonesia’s allure extends far beyond the confines of Bali, encompassing a sprawling archipelago of 17,500 islands that carefully guard a plethora of treasures. These hidden gems possess the inherent potential to captivate nomads in search of novel experiences and unspoiled panoramas. Amidst these undiscovered marvels, Bitung City naturally emerges as a prime contender poised to shift the spotlight—a potential digital nomad village boasting untamed landscapes and authentic encounters.

Bitung City, located in the Sulawesi region, Northeast of Indonesia, has taken center stage in Indonesia’s bid to diversify its nomad offerings. The city’s strategic position and easy access to stunning beaches, natural parks, diverse wildlife, breathtaking diving reefs, and delectable seafood are redefining it as a burgeoning destination for those with a nomadic spirit. The coast of Bitung City, just a short boat ride away, reveals the pristine beauty of the “Lembeh Strait” and its collection of unspoiled beaches.

    The Location

A mere 20-minute drive from the major Manado airport places Bitung City within convenient reach of many Asian hotspots including only being 3 hours from Bali. This accessibility significantly reduces travel time, making it an attractive option for those venturing into more remote and captivating areas. The city offers safe and comfortable accommodation options for digital nomads, catering to low-cost living situations as low as $200 per month while ensuring essential amenities such as reliable Wi-Fi and easy access to nature and various island activities.

    A Mayor’s Vision

The Mayor of Bitung City, Maurits Mantiri envisions digital nomads as a dynamic force that can contribute to both the vibrant city atmosphere and the local economy. He has endorsed workshops that aim to foster an intellectual exchange between nomads and the local population. Mayor Mantiri believe that the transfer of digital knowledge can be a catalyst for growth and development, benefiting both parties.

    The Pilot Program

Bitung City’s groundbreaking initiative encompasses a 1-month pilot program set to debut in September 2023. Inviting 100 digital nomads to be part of this novel experience, the program aims to foster an environment that provides similar amenities to already previously established digital nomad villages. The city is particularly interested in attracting content creators like YouTubers, Instagrammers, and TikTokers who can capture and share the essence of their time in Bitung City.

Applicants, aged 21 or older and respectful of Indonesian culture, are welcomed into this venture. A unique feature is the requirement of minimal social media followers, placing more emphasis on commitment and cultural alignment. Each prospective ambassador will undergo a video interview, ensuring a suitable fit. Successful candidates will be privileged with official invitations to join the pilot program.

    How to Apply

The program’s buzz is already resonating on platforms like LinkedIn and other social media outlets. The official application process, currently underway via the city’s website, has drawn over 500 inquiries. This remarkable response owes much to strategic partnerships cultivated with various nomad communities in South East Asia. These collaborations have attracted digital adventurers from over 40 countries, showcasing the program’s international allure.

As the sun sets on Bitung City’s captivating shores, the narrative of digital nomads is poised to embark on a new chapter. For those seeking an immersive experience in a unique Indonesian culture, this endeavor presents an opportunity to delve into a truly unique lifestyle.

  • Delta Dental uses Feedly to cut threat intelligence gathering time in half

Delta Dental uses Feedly to cut threat intelligence gathering time in half

    Case Study
How Delta Dental fills gaps in their vulnerability management process and saves four hours each week.
    Impact

More relevant threat intelligence in half the time

A complete picture of emerging threats in only 15 minutes

A streamlined and effective intelligence-gathering process

    The short version

The customer: Roger, Senior Security Engineer, Cyber Risk Management Solutions, Delta Dental: Roger monitors vulnerabilities and threats for Delta Dental, the leading dental insurance provider in the US. Every week, he puts together a risk advisory report that goes out to approximately fifty people in the infrastructure and application teams.

The challenge: spending hours manually monitoring vulnerabilities. Monitoring emerging threats and vulnerabilities used to involve visiting dozens of threat intelligence websites each day.

The solution: Gathering intelligence in one place with Feedly. The vulnerability management team uses Feedly to gather, prioritize, and manage all of the intelligence on critical vulnerabilities in a single place.

The results: Better intelligence gathered in half the time. With Feedly, the vulnerability management team at Delta Dental spends 50% less time gathering intelligence and monitoring threats — and the data they gather is more relevant, too. They gather insights from millions of different sources in near real-time, so get the complete picture on emerging threats.

    THE CLIENT
    A small vulnerability management team

On any given day, Roger has a lot on his plate: he’s in charge of vulnerability management for Delta Dental, the United States’s leading dental insurance provider. His responsibilities include identification, analysis, validation, and remediation of all vulnerability risks. “I run the full gamut of risk management, but specifically pertaining to vulnerabilities,” Roger explains. “It’s my responsibility to make sure that the entire program is running efficiently.”

Roger tracks vulnerabilities on a daily basis to monitor critical and emergent threats. One of the most important and time-consuming aspects of his job is the weekly risk advisory report he puts together for Delta Dental’s infrastructure and application teams. With the information Roger gathers each week, his colleagues can fix vulnerabilities and update software to keep their entire network secure. The vulnerability management team functions like a managed security service provider (MSSP) for other Delta Dental IT teams.

“I identify and report vulnerabilities so that other teams can save time and go straight to implementing solutions,” Roger says.

    THE CHALLENGE
Spending hours each week manually researching and tracking vulnerabilities

The vulnerability team’s threat assessment process used to look like this:

Every day, Roger would manually visit multiple threat intel websites.

He’d also work through dozens of more generic sources like news websites, Google, and LinkedIn to track and monitor vulnerabilities that could have serious consequences for his company.

Every day he looked at urgent and emerging threats, and once a week he compiled a report with information for relevant stakeholders.

The information-gathering process took hours each day. “I was spending at least eight to twelve hours a week researching vulnerabilities that could affect our enterprise. It was quite intensive.”

The vulnerability management team used many different tools for vulnerability management, but they didn’t have an easy solution for risk advisory, which left them spending hours manually gathering threat intelligence. “We needed to make stakeholders aware of the multitude of risks that exist out there. There are millions of risks. And we had no way to demonstrate that to stakeholders without doing intense manual labor on a daily and weekly basis.”

Staying on top of a large enterprise tech stack

One of the biggest vulnerabilities that an enterprise like Delta Dental faces is outdated or unsupported application software. Large companies use hundreds of different tools to run smoothly, and in worst-case scenarios, a small bug can take down a whole system.

“With a tech stack this size, there will be bugs every day. And if we don’t implement the patch or the update, obviously hackers can take advantage of that,” Roger says.

I was spending at least eight to twelve hours a week researching vulnerabilities that could affect our enterprise. It was quite intensive.

    THE SOLUTION
Feedly: A risk advisory tool to fill gaps in the vulnerability management process

Now, Roger uses Feedly AI to gather, analyze, and prioritize intelligence from millions of sources in near real-time, so that the vulnerability management team can see it all at once, in one place. Instead of spending hours manually gathering data, Roger can easily find the most up-to-date information on software releases and patches, zero-days, exploit databases, and more.

Monitoring vulnerabilities for products & vendors in their supply chain

Roger takes three main steps to prioritize critical vulnerabilities affecting products and vendors used by Delta Dental:

He sets up Feedly AI Feeds to track critical vulnerabilities related to specific products and vendors.

He checks Feedly daily to find and research high-priority CVEs that could impact Delta Dental.

He then brings those CVEs into Kenna to help prioritize their remediate and communication strategy with Delta Dental’s stakeholders.

He uses this intelligence to build his weekly report and create recommendations for fixes and patches for the infrastructure and applications teams.

“With Feedly, I can look at a lot of different sources in a single place: threat intel websites, news wires, social media, things like that, so I have all of the latest information on current threats and technology updates. And I leverage that to populate my reports.”

    Spotting critical issues faster

In addition to using Feedly as a risk advisory tool for weekly non-emergency vulnerability reports, Roger uses Feedly daily to spot critical issues and flag them right away. In minutes, he can get a complete picture of an emerging threat from multiple sources, instead of relying on any single report from one company. “When I research an emergent threat, I immediately have the latest and greatest data, because I can look directly at all of the different sources that come into Feedly,” Roger says.

Having all of this threat intel in one place gives the team better data to work with and more insights into the vulnerability. It makes the research much faster, and even gives them an edge over other cyber security analysts.

The CVE Insights Card for a recent trending vulnerability. The CVE Insights Card is one of the tools in Feedly that the Delta Dental team uses to see the complete picture of an emerging threat.

“I like to see what the hackers are seeing,” Roger explains. “And I like to see what different organizations are saying about this vulnerability, not just the instructions to fix it. I want to understand what the actual impact would be, if we were compromised.”

“When I research an emergent threat, I immediately have the latest and greatest data, because I can look directly at all of the different sources that come into Feedly”

    THE RESULTS
More relevant threat intelligence in half the time

Instead of spending eight to twelve hours putting the risk advisory report together each week, Roger now only needs four or five. By using Feedly for Threat Intelligence, he’s cut the amount of time he spends gathering intelligence about emerging vulnerabilities in half. But perhaps even more importantly, the team can now gather better intelligence with much less effort.

When a new critical threat emerges, Roger can leverage Feedly to get a complete picture of the threat and its possible repercussions for Delta Dental in as little as fifteen minutes. Without Feedly, gathering that much intelligence could take days.

Feedly should be a first step for anybody working in vulnerability management.”

Roger, Senior Security Engineer, Cyber Risk Management Solutions, Delta Dental

This served the team well when several critical threats first emerged, including the Windows Printer Spooler vulnerability and POLINA ransomware. “Instead of just going to Microsoft or visiting a single resource, I was able to use Feedly to research it and gather the latest and greatest data from lots of different sources,” Roger says. “By leveraging Feedly, we were able to get a really complete picture from all of these different perspectives.”

Today, when it comes to investigating vulnerabilities, Roger’s first step is always to check Feedly. It’s become an indispensable tool in his cybersecurity arsenal.

“My process is always Feedly first, and then I go to our intel tool second,” Roger says. “Feedly should be a first step for anybody working in vulnerability management.”

Update regarding the Feedly Twitter Integration

As of July 2023, the Twitter integration is only available to Feedly Enterprise users. This is happening because Twitter has discontinued the (much cheaper) API we used to to use to give Pro+ users access to Twitter.

There’s a new Twitter integration for Enterprise users

If you’re an Enterprise user, you can buy a Twitter API plan and read Tweets in your Feedly. Read this blog post to learn more: https://feedly.com/new-features/posts/follow-twitter-on-feedly.

The alternatives to Twitter for Pro+ users

Here are the alternatives to using Twitter to find the content you need from thought leaders and experts:

Pro+ users can already follow Newsletters

    and use our RSS Builder

We are also exploring a more comprehensive integration with Mastodon, allowing you to follow your favorite content beyond activity feeds. You should expect to hear more on this front soon.

Our Customer Support team can help you explore these features, and starting next week, we’re increasing the number of RSS Builder feeds from 25 to 50 and the number of Newsletters feeds from 50 to 75.

We know some Pro+ users relied on the Twitter integration, and we apologize for the inconvenience this is causing. If you are a Feedly Pro+ customer who upgraded mainly for the Twitter integration, we have your back. Please contact Feedly Customer Service, and we will help you explore other options, switch to Pro or get a prorated refund. Thank you for your continued support.
